Sign in with Nostr

If you have a Nostr identity (an npub), you can enter the campus with one click. Your extension signs a challenge and the campus verifies the signature. Your private key never leaves your browser: the server only ever sees your public key.

A browser extension that supports NIP-07. The most common ones:

  • Alby (Chrome, Firefox, Brave)
  • nos2x (Chrome, Brave) or nos2x-fox (Firefox)
  • Flamingo, Nostore and other NIP-07 compatible extensions
  1. Install the extension and create or import your Nostr key following the extension's own instructions.

  2. Open moodle.libreriadesatoshi.com/login and click ⚡ Log in with Nostr, the purple button below the username and password form. It takes a couple of seconds to appear.

  3. The extension will ask permission to share your public key. Accept.

  4. It will then ask you to sign the login request. Accept as well. You are signing a single-use event that expires in two minutes; it is not a transaction and authorises nothing else.

  5. Within a few seconds you are on your Dashboard.

The first sign-in with a Nostr key creates your account automatically:

  • Display name: taken from your Nostr profile (the display_name in your profile event). If you have no published profile, a generic name is used, which you can change in your profile.
  • Email: you are never asked for one. The campus generates a placeholder address from your npub. See below for what that means.

To protect your privacy, signing in with Nostr never asks you for an email: the campus builds a placeholder address from your npub. That address does not exist, so:

  • You will receive no email or communication from the campus: no course notices, no forum replies, no assignment reminders, no announcements.
  • Your identity stays unlinked to a real email address, which is the whole point.

This is the default behaviour and for many people it is the desired one. But if you were expecting notices and nothing arrives, this is why — it is not a fault.

You have to manually replace that placeholder with your real address in your campus profile: avatar → Profile → Edit profile → Email address. You will get a confirmation email at the new address.

A middle path: an address that isn't your everyday one

Section titled “A middle path: an address that isn't your everyday one”

You don't have to choose between receiving nothing and handing over your personal address. You can use one that receives mail but isn't tied to your identity:

  • A new account with a privacy-focused provider. Proton Mail and Tuta (formerly Tutanota) have free plans, ask for no personal details and encrypt the mailbox. Create one just for the campus.
  • An alias that forwards to your usual inbox. You give the campus a different address and the mail arrives where you already read it: SimpleLogin, addy.io or DuckDuckGo Email Protection. If it ever becomes a nuisance, you switch the alias off and that's that — your account is untouched.

Either way you get the campus notices and your personal address never shows up anywhere.

  • The campus receives only your public key and a signature. It cannot post on your behalf or read your messages.
  • The signature covers a unique challenge that includes the campus URL, so it cannot be replayed elsewhere.
  • The plugin behind this login is free software built by Librería de Satoshi: moodle-auth_nostr on GitHub.
